About the Event

KIBCU's 9th year participating in this cleanup! The Ocean Conservancy partners with organizations and individuals around the globe to clean up the world’s beaches and waterways. Over nearly three decades, the annual International Coastal Cleanup has mobilized millions of people in the world's largest volunteer effort for our ocean and waterways.

About the Cleanup: This is different than our other regularly scheduled cleanups in that we record ALL the debris we collect onto a Data Card. At the end of the cleanup, KIBCU tallies up all the debris and sends them to the Ocean Conservancy (OC). The OC then places all the data from the worldwide event into a "Trash Free Seas" Report which can be used to help fight for policy changes locally and nationally. In the last 8 years, KIBCU has contributed to the International Coastal Cleanups grand total of debris collected!

AGE/RSVP/Check-in, Participation Waivers, and Volunteer Hours:

All ages welcome! However, every volunteer must read and sign our mandatory participation waiver prior to each cleanup event. If you are between 13 - 18 years of age and plan on attending alone or with friends, you will NEED to have your parent or guardian sign our participation waiver prior to your arrival. SUPERVISION OF MINORS: We require children that are 12 years of age and under must be accompanied by a parent, other adult, or a sibling over 16. All children 18 years of age and under must check in and those 12 years of age and under must check in with the parent, adult or sibling when they arrive. Those parents, adults or siblings attending the event with the volunteer 12 years of age and under, must agree to always stay with the child. Kent Island Beach Cleanups and its Board of Directors and/or any Representative of Kent Island Beach Cleanups is NOT responsible for the child.

We are 100% VIRTUAL for registration. Please be sure to RSVP and Register PRIOR to the cleanup here via our website. RSVP and fill out your mandatory participation waiver from any device via our website before the event.

Check-in: visit our sign in table when you arrive at the cleanup. Just tell us your name and how many are in your group.

Volunteer Hours: when you RSVP for each event, the form will prompt you for more info. All volunteer hours will be emailed after the cleanup.

What to Bring: A reusable water bottle! We provide our volunteers with reusable gloves, trash bags, and ice-cold water. We do encourage you to bring your own supplies if you wish. We have a limited supply of buckets, trash pickers and small, light-weight rakes that you can sign out to use and then return before you leave. If you have other supplies, you may think will help, such as garden clippers, trash pickers, etc... please bring them. It never hurts to bring your friends, family, and other like-minded volunteers as well!

What to Wear: sunscreen, bug spray, clothing that you do not mind getting a little dirty and boots or old sneakers.
