About the Event
KIBCU's 8th year participating in this special cleanup! The Ocean Conservancy partners with organizations and individuals around the globe to clean up the world’s beaches and waterways. Over nearly three decades, the annual International Coastal Cleanup has mobilized millions of people in the world's largest volunteer effort for our ocean and waterways.
About the Cleanup: Due to COVID-19, this cleanup will be virtual. We are asking all interested participants to choose any beach, park, road, etc within Queen Anne's County, and clean up.
This is different than our other regularly scheduled cleanups in that we record the debris we collect onto a Data Card. At the end of the cleanup, KIBCU tallies up all of the debris and sends them to the Ocean Conservancy (OC). The OC then places all of the data from the worldwide event into a "Trash Free Seas" Report which can be used to help fight for policy changes locally and nationally. In the last 7 years, KIBCU has contributed to the International Coastal Cleanups grand total of debris collected!
What to Bring: We normally host this cleanup at 10 locations across our county and provide supplies to every volunteer at each location. However, due to COVID-19, we are unable to clean with our volunteers. If you do not have trash bags, we are able to assist. In addition, you will need to download the Ocean Conservancy's CleanSwell app (it's free) to record the trash you collect. If you are not comfortable in downloading this app, you will need to come pick up Data Cards from us.
We will be available for trash bag and data card pick up on Friday, September 18th at 102 Water Edge Lane, Stevensville from 5:30-6:30 pm only. Please text to (410) 458-1240 to confirm that you are picking up trash bags and the Data Cards.
We have some recommendations below on what you should bring with you when you clean.
- gloves
- trash bags
- buckets (to place trash bag inside as it is less cumbersome than a bag alone)
- water
-trash pickers
What to Wear: sunscreen, bug spray, clothing that you do not mind getting a little dirty and boots or old sneakers.
When and Where: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th, 2020 (ALL OVER QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY) - 8:00 am until 12:00 pm
Choose ANY location to clean!
