Kent Island Beach Cleanups in it's infancy (2012-2014)
April 2014
Terrapin Beach Park Cleanup

Our biggest turnout at the time, we had over 55 volunteers, and collected over 100+ bags of garbage! We were happy to see so many of our returning volunteers from 2012, and excited to meet many new volunteers. What an amazing cleanup!

August 2013 Terrapin Beach Park Cleanup

Over 20 volunteers and 500 lbs of debris collected in less than 3 hours! We also had some special people come out and help out: Mark Dignen, for taking our professional photos, Keri-Ann Southworth from American Waste & Recycling for providing the trash and recycling cans as well as trash pick up, Will Clark and his family, Founders of Friends of KI Parks, the ladies from Kent Island Upscale Yardsale, State Delegate, Stephen Hershey and his wife, and Geri Schlenoff, Maryland Coordinator for the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup

July 2013 Kent Narrows Cleanup

Our 2nd cleanup in July took place at Kent Narrows. We focus on this area a lot in the summer as we find that many fisherman leave behind many debris. We found all sorts of trash, but we are never shocked to find more fishing lines and hooks as well as empty beer bottles and cans. This was our first cleanup with American Waste & Recycling. They have partnered with Kent Island Beach Cleanups to provide us with free trash pickup and single-stream recycling. We are very excited to have them join our group!

July 2013 Terrapin Beach Cleanup

Our July 2013 Cleanup took place at Terrapin Beach Park, and boy was it in need of some help! It had only been a little less than a month since our last cleanup, and it seemed like it had been years. So many beer cans and bottles we lost count! A total of 11 volunteers came out, and we managed to average at least 4 bags per person. We even gained some new volunteers this day, and handed out many trash bags to beach goers!

June 2013 Cleanup

Our June 2013 Cleanup took place at Terrapin Beach Park in Stevensville, MD. We had a total of 7 volunteers. Over 3+ bags of trash was collected by each volunteer over the course of 3 hours. Even the smallest cleanup crews can make a major difference on our beaches.

Kent Narrows Cleanup May 2013

Our May 2013 cleanup was in participation with the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC). Some members of CBEC and Kristin from KIBCU's, got together to clean under the Rt. 50 Kent Narrows Bridge. This area is a hot spot for visitors, fisherman, boaters and is located where the majority of Kent Island's bars and restaurants sit. This area is seriously neglected and most of the trash we find here is related to fishing. This cleanup only had about 8 volunteers, but we managed to collect over 20 bags of trash.

March 2013 Cleanup

Our March 2013 cleanup took place over Easter weekend at Terrapin Beach Park, and we thought for sure we would have a small group. Boy were we wrong! Over 35 volunteers showed up for this event, and some even brought their kids! It was such a success and made us so happy. Everyone was working together, laughing and having a great time. We had over 8 trash collection points on the beach trail and even had a 3 year old participate.
